There was a little surprise message on our classroom window for the students earlier this week!
It's OCTOBER! Wait, how did that happen? Whoa! Last month with the busy bees in K/1 really "flew" by! There are some big events coming up soon! On Wednesday, October 7th, we will be visiting Bi-Zi Farms Pumpkin Patch! http://bizifarms.com/ If you haven't returned your child's permission slip, please do! I have received several, thank you! Also, please let me know if you would like to be a chaperon. Also, please send your child to school with a booster seat that day. It is going to be so much fun! I can hardly wait!
Let's face it, life can get messy! Please make sure your child has an extra pair of clothes in their backpacks for the little messes that can occur.
Grandparent's Day at Sonshine is coming soon! On Friday, October 16th, grandparents are invited to spend the morning and lunchtime with us at Sonshine Elementary! I am so looking forward to this "grand" event!
We talked a lot about apples this last week! We will be comparing apples and pumpkins in the weeks ahead!
Students came up with their own "apple words".
We are still sharing those All-About-Me bags, so if your child hasn't done so yet, feel free to send them! If you have lost it, they can still bring their three items. We love sharing time in the hive!!!
Sammy shares her treasures!
We share our wonderful writing too!
Love these smiles!
The weather has been so amazingly beautiful this week that I took the students outside for some lessons. What can I say? These little bees love the outdoors!!!
The students have been having a great time at P.E. with Mrs. Berglund (the original Mrs. B).
They had a little reward as they enjoyed Pastor Cary's chocolate-chip cookies! We were grateful for the special treat he made at the Sonshine Preschool.
Next week we will be focusing on the reading standards of using illustrations and details to describe characters, settings, or events and identifying real-life connections between words and their use as we explore our Journey texts: "Gus Takes the Train" and "City Zoo".
Our Sight-Words:
Our Spelling Words:
In math, we will be continue work in greater-than/less-than (kindergarten) and addition story problems (first grade). We will also have some fun pumpkin-math in our centers-time! In science, we will be studying the life-cycle of the pumpkin and create a mini-book that students can take home. We will continue our studies on helpers in our community and have some special word-work and writing activities during Daily 5 that feature occupations.
The verse for this coming week is Psalms 3:13. I will be sharing the following verse as well, because I think it is so important. So, we will be focusing on Psalms 3:13-14. What powerful verses.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend and let me know if you have any prayer requests this week.
