Welcome Back!

Greetings, fabulous K/1 parents! I am happy to be back teaching your buzzing bees! I have to say how proud I am of the way they have transitioned back into school. They haven't skipped a beat. Reading has been impressive, so thank you for practicing at home. I am sending home a sheet that has sight words (high-frequency words) and spelling words so they can have them mastered by the end of the week. I also suggest that they are reading a book every night. Thank you for all of the support with this!

What we've been up to...

We had a fun painting project based on our verse: "The Lord is my light and my salvation-whom shall I fear?" Psalm 27:1.

Sonshine kids painting the sunshine!

We have talked a lot about manners and the kids made an excellent anchor chart about what manners look like and sound like!

We are starting to work towards a hot-cocoa party! The way we are earning marshmallows in our cup is by using our manners, doing kind things, and having good behavior outside of the classroom as well (specials, recess, lunch, etc.). I believe these bees can get it full by the end of the month! I sure hope so!!! Mrs. Bates loves hot cocoa!

Pastor Cary made a visit and cooked up some wonderful fried rice for the Sonshine kids! They were so excited! And I must say, it smelled delicious! What a treat.

We have continued studying time, telling time, and comparing different measurements of time. The students used their own clocks today and demonstrated how they found the hour and minute. We will continue working on this important skill.

What's coming up...
The Saturday Volunteer CafĂ© is coming up next Saturday, on January 16th. It will run from 10 am- 1 pm. If you can attend, please meet in the church foyer (entrance of school building) that morning. There will be an RSVP flyer coming home that you can return if you are interested in helping out.
This upcoming week we will be focusing on hibernation and migration in animals. We will be learning more about animal habitats and needs as well. We will also be doing some fun winter-themed activities!

Math  Minute!

For the "math minute" this coming week, reviewing counting skills (1-120, counting by fives, and tens) would be wonderful! If your kiddo needs a challenge, practicing skip-counting with them would be a great idea.

In reading, we have the following sight words, spelling words, texts, and essential question:

In Bible, we will be studying Ruth. Our memory verse this week:

Thank you and have a wonderful week! As always, please let me know if you have any questions, concerns, or prayer requests! ~Mrs. Bates
