Farewell, February! Marching into Spring...

Next week, February will end and the month of March will begin! What that means in The Hive is that we will be even busier than ever! We have so many fun things planned! Here is a highlight of what is coming up:

READ-ACROSS-AMERICA WEEK:

February 29-March 4th is “Read Across America” week and our celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. This event helps promote the importance of reading in a fun manner. We have decided to set a school wide goal to read 15,000 minutes by March 4th. Both staff and students will be involved in this event. To track our minutes, we are asking everybody to write down how many minutes they have read or have been read to at the end of the day. We are going to track minutes read in school and at home.  Please bring this log to school every day so we can add minutes read in school. Please help us reach our goal at read 15,000 minutes in one week! Happy reading!

Aiden Warner made a great Star-of-the-Week!

The bees love singing their chapel songs!

Such beautiful weather this last week!

Students love to share their writing!

We learned about food, where it comes from, and life on a farm!

We earned our extra recess with Mrs. Warner! We were all on time in The Hive this week, keep it up!!!

                                                                      Bible Time!

Next week, our reading homework will be lots of READING!

Fill up those reading logs with minutes read by your child, and whatever you read to them as well! We will have a mini-unit on Leap Year on Monday. We will be doing Dr. Seuss activities all week. In math, we will continue to learn about subtraction! That is the math minute this week, using counting back to subtract. Practice counting back from 12 and writing out story problems that include subtraction. Your kiddos will be able to help you come up with great subtraction stories! In Bible, we will be studying the boyhood of Jesus.

Have a wonderful week and please let me know if you have any questions!

So much to celebrate!

Greetings, magnificent K/1 parents! I hope that your child has enjoyed their winter break and will be ready to return to school on Monday feeling refreshed and renewed! We had a very busy week in The Hive before break and I want to share some of the highlights with you!

Our Fruit of the Spirit awards for December and January were Grace Denny for Kindness, Samantha Legler for Peace, and Wyatt Wilson for Peace and Kindness.

Partner reading our anchor text for the week is always a hit!

Grace made a wonderful Star of the Week!

We had a very fun data activity in which The Bees graphed conversation hearts! They sorted, counted, tallied, and graphed their hearts. And yes, when all the important work was over, they did get to eat some of their hearts.

Our 100th Day of School celebration included an art project with the Lee/Palmer bunch, making fruit loop necklaces, a roll-to-100 game, writing about what they would do with 100 dollars, making 100-day crowns, and other fun learning  activities! 100 days of hard work is certainly something to celebrate!

It was hard to contain all our excitement this week as we anticipated the fun ahead!

And we celebrated Valentines Day on the same day as our 100-day celebration! The Bees loved handing out their Valentines and we loved having our special helper, Sonshine Christian's very own librarian, Mrs. Johnson joined us all day! What a treat! A special thank you to her and to all the Bees and their families for bringing in Valentines for their friends and special treats to share!

Next week we will be having a Down-on-the-Farm themed week! In addition to several library books about farming, how food is made, and farm animals, there will be some special word work and writing activities to compliment what we are studying about! We will continue our studies on informational writing and have some special farm story-problems! As you can see, our lists of spelling and sight words has been growing! There are several for your child to be learning to mastery. Please review the sight words and spelling words with your child before we return to school. This will give them an important preview of the work ahead and give them a jump-start! And as the week goes on, please practice with them. Thank you!

Have a wonderful week! We have had an amazing 100 days and I am excited for all the fun days ahead!
