Greetings, magnificent K/1 parents! I hope that your child has enjoyed their winter break and will be ready to return to school on Monday feeling refreshed and renewed! We had a very busy week in The Hive before break and I want to share some of the highlights with you!
Our Fruit of the Spirit awards for December and January were Grace Denny for Kindness, Samantha Legler for Peace, and Wyatt Wilson for Peace and Kindness.

Partner reading our anchor text for the week is always a hit!
We had a very fun data activity in which The Bees graphed conversation hearts! They sorted, counted, tallied, and graphed their hearts. And yes, when all the important work was over, they did get to eat some of their hearts.
Our 100th Day of School celebration included an art project with the Lee/Palmer bunch, making fruit loop necklaces, a roll-to-100 game, writing about what they would do with 100 dollars, making 100-day crowns, and other fun learning activities! 100 days of hard work is certainly something to celebrate!
It was hard to contain all our excitement this week as we anticipated the fun ahead!
And we celebrated Valentines Day on the same day as our 100-day celebration! The Bees loved handing out their Valentines and we loved having our special helper, Sonshine Christian's very own librarian, Mrs. Johnson joined us all day! What a treat! A special thank you to her and to all the Bees and their families for bringing in Valentines for their friends and special treats to share!
Next week we will be having a Down-on-the-Farm themed week! In addition to several library books about farming, how food is made, and farm animals, there will be some special word work and writing activities to compliment what we are studying about! We will continue our studies on informational writing and have some special farm story-problems! As you can see, our lists of spelling and sight words has been growing! There are several for your child to be learning to mastery. Please review the sight words and spelling words with your child before we return to school. This will give them an important preview of the work ahead and give them a jump-start! And as the week goes on, please practice with them. Thank you!
