Beautiful Weather, Chapel Program Pictures, and Spring is in the Air!

Good evening, incredible K/1 parents! I hope this blog finds you well! This beautiful weather has been such a blessing! While we have had some time to enjoy the sunshine, we have also been hard at work. I want to share with you just how busy we have been in The Hive and what we will be learning about when we return from break.

Coming Up:

Friday, April 1st: Last day for the Early Registration Discount for the 2016-2017 school year and the two-week Summer Educational Camp.

April 4th-8th: Spring Break!!!!!

Saturday, May 14th, 6 pm: Annual Spring Auction

***Our Hampton Senior Center field trip will be rescheduled for sometime this month. I will keep you posted!

We have been learning about what grows in a garden in our Journeys program this week and reading a story from the Frog and Toad are Friends collection. We have discussed problems and solutions in a story line, character attributes, and the use of repetition in writing. The bees also wrote about what they would love to grow in a garden.

We have been learning about grouping tens and ones, double-digit numbers, and representing these with objects. We have also been counting dimes. We had a special jelly-bean sorting, tallying, and graphing activity as well. In Bible, we have been discussing leadership, specifically Servant Leadership, and serving the way Jesus did and intends us to. What a thrill it was to lead chapel on Monday! We led in some worship songs, and shared the story of Noah's Ark. I was ecstatic over how hard they worked in practice in order to give God the glory when they performed! We have been doing a few final assessments before the end of the quarter, which is this Friday. You can expect report cards to go home sometime during the week following Spring Break. I will let you know to be on the lookout when I send them home.

 Spring Auction:
The Spring Auction is coming up on Saturday, May 14th!
Special Request: I have a frame that Bethani Green is donating (thank you!) for our gift-card frame auction item. I need various gift cards donated (anywhere in the $5-$20 range would be perfect).

The math-minute this week will be identifying three-digit numbers and the hundreds, tens, and ones place. You will see this coming home on the homework sheets. In addition, identifying and counting dimes will be an activity we will be doing. Making home connections with coin-counting would be great!

Coming up in reading:

Our theme will be the season of Spring and Spring animals. We will do an in-depth study of Robins!

In Bible, we will be focusing on "Loving Others". Our Bible verse this week:

Chapel Presentation, Hamptons Visit, and Early Registration Discount!

It has been so wonderful meeting with you all and I am exceedingly proud of the progress that the busy-bees have made! I am also proud of the goals they have set for themselves and the commitment to hard work they have. I can't wait to see how they end this school year. We are in the final quarter of the year and it is their time to soar!

Coming Up:

Monday, March 28th: Our class is leading chapel with a presentation of the Bible story of Noah and the Ark. We would love for you to join us!!!

Wednesday, March 30th: Visit to Hamptons Senior Center. Please bring a booster seat for your child on this day. We will leave the school at 9:45 am.

Friday, April 1st: Last Day for the Early Registration discount and Summer Camp registration discount!

Next week in Reading:

Our theme will be plants and what they need to grow and survive. We will study place-value in math, and group numbers by tens and ones. The math minute this week is skip-counting (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and so on). Grouping tens and counting the ones in double-digit numbers (ex: 24, 35, 42, 56, 62, etc), would be a wonderful activity that connects to what we are studying this week. Drawing lines, circles, etc. and grouping them this way is reflective of activities we are doing in class. In Bible we will be studing what it means to be a leader.
